Overview of Saltwater Disposal Well – Facility
The production of oil & gas creates the byproduct “saltwater” or also known as “produced water.“ During the production of oil & gas for each barrel of oil produced there can be on average 3 to 5 barrels of “saltwater” produced. The “saltwater” helps bring oil & gas to the earth’s surface during production.
The “saltwater” must later be safely discarded. One option to safely discard the “saltwater” is an Eco-Friendly EPA approved “saltwater disposal well - facility.“
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) describes a “saltwater” disposal well as “a bored, drilled well,“ whose depth is much greater than the surface water at an approved depth so it can’t contaminate land or water resources. The formation where the “saltwater” is commonly ejected is comprised of limestone
or sandstone. Each state imposes strict regulations on “saltwater” disposal wells – facilities.
